Exchange from Mac

New gig uses Exchange, rather keen on the scheduling aspect so IMAP clients need not bother, at least not as a “usual” tool.

Got a shiny new iMac on the desk. The least crappy way to talk to Exchange? Get the boss to pony up for VMware Fusion and run Outlook. Do not pass Go, do not try to make Entourage work adequately.

And ironically, when you run Outlook you are at least running native x86 code!

New iMacs: not so bad after all?

So it seems that the 2600Pro may not be as crappy as everyone first thought. We’re still not looking at a brilliant performer, but they do seem to be comparable to an 8600GT once the newer XP drivers are taken into account.

It’s unlikely that the OS X drivers are anywhere near as good as those available for XP right now but they will get better, if not in an update then in 10.5.

This makes the 20″ 2.4GHz iMac look like a pretty decent buy at ~AU$2000.

In other news, it turns out that the new gig ordered my desktop machine late enough that they were supplied with a new-model iMac. So I’ll have an idea how the keyboard and display work out soon enough.
